Caledonia Baseball Softball League will impose a Zero Tolerance Policy that will be applied to all players, parents, managers, and coaches that display disrespect toward on-field umpires, players, coaches, parents, board members or other league volunteers.
We are one Little League, one CAL. Given any opportunity to teach, discuss and learn from one another - coach, umpire, player - let’s take it. Let’s be mature adults, great role models and lead by example. It’s a game, one that should be fun, competitive but never inappropriate.
That said, to curb abuses, CBSL board members and umpires will penalize team coaches, players, and parents whom, through verbal communications or physical gestures, make an obvious attempt to:
- Intimidate or disrespect an Umpire, Parent, Manager, Coach/Assistant Coach, Board Member, Volunteer or a Player.
- Challenge the authority or competence of an Umpire, Manager, Coach/Assistant Coach, Board Member, or Volunteer.
- Incite, provoke, or initiate any verbal or physical abuse of an Umpire, Parent, Manager, Coach/Assistant Coach, Board Member, Volunteer or a Player.
- Make comments/profanity and/or gestures intended to be personal in nature to a Player, Umpire, Coach/Assistant Coach, Manager, Parent, Board Member, or Volunteer.
If the zero-tolerance policy is violated, the on-field Umpires or any CBSL board member will stop the game immediately. The offending person will:
- Receive a Warning: Umpire or Board Member will provide a verbal warning.
- First Ejection: be asked to leave the premises and will receive a 3-game suspension
- Second Ejection: be removed from the team for the remainder of the season (including all postseason and all-star tournaments) and will be subject to possible disqualification from coaching in CBSL in the future.
For purposes of instruction/education only, if a Manager wishes to discuss a play with a Player, he must do so by calling time or waiting until the end of the half inning.
For purposes of instruction/education only, if a Manager wishes to discuss a call with an Umpire, he must do so alongside the opposing team’s manager with the understanding that the Umpire's decision is final.
Parents, umpires or volunteers are asked to contact the league board of directors with concerns. All complaints will be reviewed, and appropriate action will be taken as deemed necessary.
Additionally, CBSL will impose a Zero Tolerance policy around drinking, smoking, or any other form of substance abuse while in the attendance of CBSL activities - whether directly before, during, or directly after the event. This policy applies to all players, family members of players, coaches/managers, umpires, volunteers, board members, and volunteers. Any suspect party, either by action, word, or physical condition, will be asked to leave the premises immediately, and authorities may be called. In the case of alcohol or other possible drug use, players will not be released to suspect family members if they are their only means of transportation. A report shall be filed with the Board of Directors and subsequent disciplinary action, including release or suspension of player, family member, coach, umpire, volunteer, or board member, may be incurred.
