The Caledonia Baseball Softball League requests that all players be treated equal during regular season play, as this approach allows everyone the opportunity to learn, grow and experience Little League. In T-ball and Coach Pitch coaches are requested to give each player an opportunity to play at every position provided they are safe to do so. Coaches are also asked to ensure they are balancing infield and outfield play, and not sitting a child more than two innings a game, with the exception of our Upper Division pitching needs. Each player must sit once before a child sits a second time, and rotate who sits first each game.
Starting in Boys AA and Girls Minors, the playing time at each position is no longer required to be equal, however coaches must provide all players with opportunities to play every position providing it is desired and safe to do so. During practice, coaches are asked to provide opportunities for players to practice their preferred position, as a game is not the first place to learn a position.
Fair play rules also require that coaches sit players in a fair rotation during games, and that players get a balance of fielding in both the infield and outfield.
Additionally, in 2023, Little League International adopted a policy of a continuous batting order that will include all players on the team present at the start of the game, to appear in the batting order. Each player is required to bat in his/her respective spot in the batting order. Please note that this will apply to both regular season and tournament play.
Are players required to pitch or catch if they don’t want to?
No – coaches should encourage all their players to try all positions, however they must respect a player’s feelings if they do not wish to play either the pitcher or the catcher position.
Little League pitch count rules must be followed, with no exceptions in regular season or tournament play.
